Jaws' Justification (to the tune of “I am sailing” *)

by Jane Dards

I was swimming.
I was swimming
through the waters
of the bay.
I was grabbing
tasty morsels
that came thrashing
in my way.

Maybe I got
kinda grouchy
with those guys who
chased me down.
There’d have been no
bleedin’ trouble
if they’d just left
me alone.

* to be sung in Rod Stewart's gravelly and rather out-of-tune voice.

"Jaws' Justification" was first published in The Oldie January 2009.

The competition was to "write a piece of self-justification by a fictional villain to the tune of a well-known song".
