Organisations

Write Out Loud is an organisation that encourages poetry performance. Its website lists information on poetry gigs, and includes news and discussions.

Literature Wales / Llenyddiaeth Cymru (formed from Academi and Ty Newydd) is the National Company for the development of literature in Wales. Its website includes extensive information and advice for writers, and details of events. Literature Wales runs a range of literary competitions, including the Cardiff International Poetry Competition, the Rhys Davies Short Story Competition and the John Tripp Award for Spoken Poetry.

Light verse

LightenUp Online is a quarterly light verse webzine. Full of great stuff, and it's free! Back-issues are available online too.

The Oldie has a monthly competition, with the winning poems printed near the back of the magazine. They're not available to read online, so you need to subscribe (or buy a copy from your local newsagent). It's well worth it for the excellent articles, not to mention the cartoons...   If you haven't come across The Oldie before, and you miss Punch, then your're in for a treat.

The Spectator magazine covers world politics, current events, news and discussion. Check out the Wit and Wisdom section online for the results of the weekly literary competition - light verse and prose tend to appear on alternate weeks.

Pamphlets and cards

HappenStance publishes poetry pamphlets - mostly serious, but some light verse too. Check out their Poetry Cards (in the Shop) as well.

Candlestick Press publishes some wonderful pamphlets that can be used "instead of a card". Each contains 10 or 12 poems, and comes with an envelope and a bookmark on which to write your message.

Other poetry publications

This could be a pretty long list...    Watch this space!
